Words and music by Justin Neway
Verse 1
When my heart began to go a wander’n
The Rockies rang out strong (I heard a song), I had to go
And when I got behind the wheel that morning
The goodbyes had been said (the promise made), lets hit the road
The color’s calling to the trees and I must leave New England
And your eyes are crying softly as I change the dreams we planned
For my heart is telling me to take the road again
And those Rocky Mountains beckon me ahead
Verse 2
Heading through the hills of Pennsylvania
The winding rivers roll (they do not know), my road is long
And though I like the rain I won’t remain here
The clouds are much too gray (I cannot stay), I’m moving on
Coming through the cornfields now Kentucky’s on my left
And the girl in Cincinnati won’t be easy to forget
For my heart is telling me to take the road again
And those Rocky Mountains beckon me ahead
Verse 3
Riding down the road from Kansas City
The wheat lands roll away (the golden day), they touch my soul
And in my mind I take a longer journey
Through times that I have known (the wind has blown), her whispered call
A prairie heart can give you love as deep as you will know
And I never asked the reason when she said she missed me so
For my heart was telling me to take the road again
And those Rocky Mountains beckoned me ahead
Verse 4
The mountains make their home in Colorado
They reach into the sky (can’t tell you why), they stand alone
They never ask the meaning of tomorrow
Just set my spirit free (they’re friends to me), my thoughts can roam
And though my road lies further on I’ll wander back some day
For the laughter in her loving eyes will lead me home to stay
Yes, my heart is telling me I’ll take the road again
When those Rocky Mountains beckon me ahead
